DURAN DURAN COLLABORATE WITH DINOS CHAPMAN TO CREATE NEW LOVEBOX ARTWORK

Submitted by Kevin on 25/06/2009 – 2:42 PMNo Comment

lovebox_cover_finalControversial Brit artist Dinos Chapman has teamed up with Duran Duran’s Nick Rhodes to create a striking piece of original art, in anticipation of their headlining performance on the main stage at the Lovebox Festival on Saturday 18th July. Well known for his shocking and provocative works such as Hell (2000) and Death (2003), Chapman’s influence is clear in the highly original and striking image, which depicts the pop legends as ghostly faces overlooking a pack of marauding zombies. Nick Rhodes, the band’s keyboard player, worked with Chapman to produce the image, and is well-known for his appreciation of art, and has seen his own work included in exhibitions around the world.

The artwork will grace the cover of the 2009 Lovebox magazine, which will be distributed free with all copies of Time Out London from Tuesday 30th June, and includes an in-depth guide to this year’s festival, plus exclusive interviews with some of the stellar line-up, including New York Dolls, Florence and the Machine, Noah and the Whale, Gang of Four, VV Brown, and of course Duran Duran themselves. Other acts confirmed to play the two day festival, which takes place in London’s Victoria Park over the weekend of Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th July include N*E*R*D, Doves, Friendly Fires and Groove Armada.

Duran Duran remain one of the UK’s most successful pop acts, with over 70 million record sales to date, and are currently working on their thirteenth album. With Lovebox being their only UK festival appearance scheduled for 2009, anticipation is running high amongst fans that the band will unveil new material during their headline set. Dinos Chapman has risen to prominence as one of Britain’s most successful and controversial artists, enjoying patronage from Charles Saatchi and receiving a nomination for the 2003 Turner Prize, in collaboration with his brother Jake Chapman. The decision to pair these two creative forces together for the Lovebox magazine cover is just another example of the festival’s ability to surprise and intrigue – a theme apparent in every area from the line-up to the wide array of non-music entertainment on offer over the weekend, including a purpose built bowling alley created by All-Star Lanes and the largest tree-house ever built, courtesy of GAYMERS.

Clare Lusher, Head of Marketing for Lovebox, commented “We were delighted to secure Duran Duran as headliners for the Lovebox Weekender 2009, and having such a respected artist as Dinos Chapman agree to create this artwork for our magazine was the icing on the cake. At Lovebox we are committed to putting on events with a real difference, and hopefully this is reflected in this highly striking and unconventional image”

“The Lovebox Weekender has become not just one of the most authentic festivals of the summer, but an annual love letter to the capital”- The Guardian
