Top pick of the festivals ‘09 – SUNDAY TIMES FESTIVAL GUIDE

Following a stunning arts showcase at Shunt last week, Standon Calling is back in the Capital again on 4th and 5th July with a joy-packed afternoon and evening showcase of what’s in store for creative attractions. On top of a sterling evening of entertainment in Café Oto, Standon will return the following afternoon to host a family picnic, bring your whole tribe!

The Standon Calling picnic is a preview of this years’ kids’ area and will be complete with reggae nursery rhymes from Maurice, group games, facepainting and a general feast of silliness for the whole clan.

The Teddy bears picnic follows an evening showcase at Dalston’s Café Oto – the perfect hangover cure for everyone!

SATURDAY 4TH JULY: The Standon Calling evening showcase featuring:

BOOK CLUB BOUTIQUE

The book club boutique is London’s newest literary salon and Soho’s only free weekly spoken word book club, created by the notorious poet and raconteur Salena Godden and her partner in crime Rachel Raynor.

HERITAGE ARTS COMPANY

The Heritage Arts Company produce inspired, interactive theatre. Their team have worked with Punchdrunk, Kneehigh and The National Theatre. Fresh from an acclaimed week long residency at Shunt, they preview their space-driven material.

CRAIG TAYLOR ‘ONE MILLION TINY PLAYS ABOUT BRITAIN’

Craig Taylor performs selections from his new book One Million Tiny Plays about Britain (as seen is his weekly column in Guardian Weekend Magazine). These snippets of overheard conversations from across the country capture the state we’re in with humour, pathos and perfect timing.
